Amrita Goel, J.D., LL.M.
Of Counsel
Amrita started her career as an in-house attorney at Accretive Health, Inc., a revenue-cycle management company for healthcare entities. There she worked under both the General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer, focusing on reviewing and drafting hospital client and vendor contracts, business associate agreements, non-disclosure agreements, policies, procedures, and other legal memoranda, as well as providing company-wide compliance training and education, investigating compliance incidents, assisting in discovery and litigation, and serving as legal contact for the physician advisory services arm of the organization.
Amrita then served as Associate General Counsel of Clinical-Operational at Presence Health, the largest Catholic healthcare provider in the state of Illinois, with twelve hospitals and thirty nursing homes. Â There she was responsible for clinical facility regulatory issues, including licensure, IDPH and CMS surveys, and environmental and OSHA matters, and clinical operational legal issues such as patient and resident care, behavioral health, and criminal matters. She also provided legal representation and review for clinical research and IRB issues, reviewed intellectual property matters, including trademarks, trade names, copyrights, and patents, advised on development issues, provided system-wide training on a variety of legal issues, including behavioral health and IDPH incident investigation and reporting, and drafted and revised system-wide policies relating to clinical-operational matters.
Amrita most recently served as legal counsel for Scanoptix, Inc., a startup ophthalmic imaging device, where she advised on regulatory and compliance issues in the medical device field, drafted contracts, including NDA’s, BAA’s, service agreements, and employment contracts, assisted in patent applications and filings, and provided compliance training for employees.
Amrita received a Bachelor of Science of Foreign Service in 2005 from the Georgetown University Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service, where she majored in International Politics with a focus on International Law, Ethics, and Organization, as well as received a Certificate in Justice and Peace Studies. Â Amrita received her Juris Doctorate degree and a Certificate in Health Law from Loyola University Chicago School of Law in 2008. Â During this time, she also studied Comparative Advocacy at University College London and Comparative Law in Delhi, India. Â She then received a Master of Laws in Health Law from Loyola University Chicago School of Law in 2009. Â During her legal training, Amrita was the first and only paid law clerk at the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office in almost a decade, clerked at a medical malpractice law firm, and externed at Northwestern University Hospital Office of General Counsel, The American Dental Association Office of General Counsel, and Rush University Medical Center Department of Risk Management. Â In 2010 Amrita was a Fellow at the University of Chicago Maclean Center for Clinical Medical Ethics.
Amrita has been active with the Illinois Association of Healthcare Attorneys and has attended the HCCA Healthcare Compliance Academy.
Amrita is licensed to practice law in Illinois.
