Integrating body, mind and spirit and accelerating healing has been my passion since studying energy healing after leaving Wall Street.
In my law practice, I have represented medical doctors to clinical psychologists to chiropractors, massage therapists and acupuncturists, to nutritionists and healers. People ask whether I became interested in integrative medicine and holistic health due to a crisis, and the answer is “no:” rather, it was an evolution of my yoga and meditation practice, and spiritual opening which began as a corporate, M&A and securities lawyer at a big Wall Street firm.
At the time, I stumbled into an interfaith seminary and came across drumming, channeling, healing, and all sorts of intuitive arts that made no sense in light of my linear, analytical training. I read books such as “Altered States of Consciousness” by psychologist Charles Tart to try to understand shamanic experience in ways that made intellectual sense, while opening in experiential ways to mystical paths and study of energy healing.
Recently I’ve become aware that there is a great shift happening on the planet, independent of what current events may say; it’s a movement into greater awareness of universal love, and an intersection of transcendental realities into physical space.
I was thinking a lot the last few days about the divine feminine and how the principle of love and compassion for all beings can manifest in the form of one beloved or many or all beloveds. I believe it is a Buddhist principle, to regard every one as someone who could have been (or in that tradition, perhaps was) your mother.
I was also thinking about these lines I penned recently to someone special:
Every Shiva has his Shakti.
You are the Shakti to my Shiva.
To that great energy I bow.
Is this person the feminine counterpart to my masculine, or am I speaking to the archetype that flows through me, that momentarily rested with the overwhelming power of the anima on this particular human being, triggering deep unconscious connections too tidal for the analytical mind to resist? To that great energy I bow.
Not everyone believes that spirits recycle in bodies, and that we people cycle through time in various garbs; but it is my felt experience to honor the closeness between those with whom I have a special connection by spontaneously remembering, in meditation, our moments in other times and spaces.
She of whom I speak appeared in my meditation as a special beloved, pressed against me in white garb while riding an elephant. Her beauty radiated with suffusing elegance.
It isn’t always easy to live this dual experience, of being in the here and now in which we have these personalities that sometimes grate against one another, while also deeply experiencing other dimensions of consciousness in which we merge and share ourselves more freely.
We merge energetically; and yet on this plane there is so much separation. It only makes sense by understanding these different realities as facets of a whole, yet operating on different levels.
To that great energy I bow.
I’ve been contemplating that the Shakti energy, the divine feminine, the form of the beloved that complements the masculine, can come different ways and shapes.
Christmas to New Years is a strange time here in the U.S. Almost everyone has a family drama – or, we re-shape our families in different ways.
In Christmas’s pasts I have felt the energy of peace permeate the planet. This time, I went for a hike in Ojai with friends. We came across a female horse, walking across a field, and she and I got to know one another. My companions on the hike witnessed this coming together – another experience of merger. I felt the rays of the cosmos pass through her as she sensed my energy and nuzzled closer – and experienced this moment as a message from the divine, a healing in the form of this wise, intuitive being who knew exactly what I needed to feel the love of the cosmos and the cosmic feminine embodied, at this particular moment in time.
To that great energy I bow.
