Matthew represents a large expanse of companies, including conventional healthcare practices, medical spas, mental health practices, complementary and alternative healthcare practices, management services organizations, healthcare technology platforms, dietary supplement companies, cosmetics companies, and medical device companies. Matthew utilizes his deep knowledge of healthcare laws and regulations related to state and federal anti-kickback prohibitions, self-referral (“STARK”) prohibitions, practitioner scope of practice, corporate practice of medicine, professional entity formation, telehealth, HIPAA, FDA market pathways for healthcare products, and FTC limitations to the advertising and marketing of healthcare products.

Prior to joining Cohen Healthcare Law Group, Matthew gained significant healthcare law experience as an associate attorney with Carlson & Jayakumar LLP in Newport Beach, California, where he formed professional healthcare entities ranging from solo practices to multi-disciplinary groups to hospitals, advised as to healthcare fraud and abuse and corporate compliance, drafted a wide variety of healthcare industry contracts, structured professional practice sales, provided professional employment counsel, defended practices against health insurance audits and overpayment demands by private insurers (PPO, HMO) and federal insurers (Medicare, Tricare), and defended California licensed professionals against disciplinary action by the California Medical Board, Chiropractic Board, Nursing Board, Acupuncture Board, and the Board of Behavioral Sciences.

Matthew is currently active in the local legal community as Chair of the Orange County Bar Association’s Healthcare Law section. A longtime musician with an academic concentration in entertainment law, Matthew also has general experience in matters involving individuals and companies in the entertainment industry. Matthew received his Bachelor of Science degree in Journalism from the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University.
